For the 2009 Summer
Internship program, the deadline for submission of application
materials will be Nov. 1, 2008.

You must be a college junior, senior or graduate student enrolled
in a degree program on November 1, 2008. Previous internships
and/or experience on a college newspaper are preferred.

You must submit your application packet by mail. The packet
must include, in this order:
- Checklist download here
- Signed application
- Typed autobiographical essay of at least 500 words
- Resume
- Work samples
- Reporters, copy editors and Editorial Page candidates:
6 to 8 clips, preferably photocopies, on 8 1/2 x 11 paper.
- Photographers: portfolio of 20 to 40 shots that include
sports/action, features, portraits and a picture story;
prints (preferred), CD or slides
- Graphic artists and news editors/page designers: portfolio
of 10 to 20 samples on 8 1/2 x 11 photocopies, slides,
prints or pdf files on CD
- Two letters of recommendation. Use the greeting: "To
the Selection Committee:"
- College transcript
Note: Although we prefer they be included in your application
packet, some colleges and/or references may want to send
transcripts and letters of recommendation directly to The
Washington Post. The postmark deadline is November 1.

- Send all reporting and copy editing clips on 8 1/2 x 11
paper
- Clip, do not staple your material together
- Do not send your packet in a notebook, presentation cover,
clear plastic pages or other fancy packaging. The packaging
will be discarded before your application is evaluated.
