High School Writing Seminar and Scholarship Program

This annual writing seminar is held for high school seniors on four consecutive Saturdays in March at The Washington Post. The students learn about writing news and feature stories from Post reporters and editors. Several Post professionals also speak to the students about their careers.

On the fourth Saturday of the seminar, the students write a news story. The students’ stories are judged by a panel of Post staffers. The students receive written critiques of their stories from the judges. The top two students are awarded a $2,500 college scholarship.

This seminar is co-sponsored by The Washington Post, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Asian American Journalists Association. The program is open to all area high school seniors. All interested students are encouraged to apply.
