Sharon B. Raimo
is the principal at St. Coletta of Greater Washington, Inc., in Alexandria, Va. Ms. Raimo began her career in education in 1969 as a remedial English teacher at Easton High School in Maryland where she remained for two years. In 1971, she joined the faculty at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Md., as an English literature and composition teacher. Working for the private sector from 1972 to 1973, Ms. Raimo was an editor for United Press International. In 1974, she returned to education as a special education teacher and department chair at Thomas Stone High School in Waldorf, Md., where she remained for three years. From 1977 to 1984, she took time off to raise a family. Ms. Raimo returned to teaching in 1984 as an English literature and composition teacher at the Academy of Notre Dame in Washington, D.C., where she remained for one year. She became a special assistant to the principal for communications and public relations at the Capitol Hill Cluster School in 1985 until assuming her current position in 1992. In 2003, Ms. Raimo was recognized by Washingtonian magazine as a Washingtonian of the Year and serves as a member on the Capitol Hill Hospital Community Advisory Board. She holds a BA degree in English and an MS degree in educational administration from Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and an MS degree in special education from Salisbury State University in Maryland.
