Miriam D. Hughey-Guy,
Arlington Public Schools, is the principal of Barcroft Elementary School. Mrs. Hughey-Guy began her career in education in 1975, as a health, physical and drivers education teacher at Bluestone Senior High School in Skipwith, Va. From 1979 to 1980, she was a physical education graduate teaching assistant at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md. In 1980, Mrs. Hughey-Guy moved to the private sector and was a special assistant in medical and mental health services for National Health Plan, Inc., in Washington, D.C. From 1984 to 1993, she continued her career in education and joined Arlington Public Schools as a physical education teacher, coordinator, minority students achievement teacher and ultimately as assistant principal at Francis Scott Key Elementary School in Arlington, Va. Mrs. Hughey-Guy assumed her present position in 1993. She holds a BS degree in health, physical education, recreation and driver education from Virginia State University in Petersburg, Va., and an MA degree in administration and supervision and physical education from the University of Maryland in College Park, Md.
