Garth E. Bowling, Jr.,
Charles County Public Schools, is the principal of Maurice J. McDonough High School. In 1972, Mr. Bowling began his career in education as a student teacher at Ridgely Junior High School in Lutherville, Md. From 1973 to 1977, he was a social studies teacher at Westminster West Middle School in Westminster, Md., and at Dunloggin Middle School in Ellicott City, Md. In 1977, Mr. Bowling joined Charles County Public Schools as a social studies teacher at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School in Temple Hills, Md. From 1979 to 1981, he served as vice principal at Matthew Henson Middle School in Indian Head, Md. In 1981, Mr. Bowling returned to Benjamin Stoddert Middle School as assistant principal, where he remained for four years. From 1985 to 1992, he served as principal of Piccowaxen Middle School in Newburg, Md. In 1992, Mr. Bowling moved to John Hansen Middle School in Waldorf, Md., and served as principal until he assumed his present position in 1997. He holds a BS degree in political science and an MEd degree with emphasis in secondary education from Towson State College in Towson, Md.
